Creatively Speaking: To NaNo Or Not To NaNo?

So the last couple of weeks have been a little sparse on the creative front - I put up a blind, I made a birthday card, done a bit of colouring etc.

However I have done more on the writing front.

I've still been reading Characters and Viewpoint by Orson Scott Card. But I've been taking a look at my main characters. When I say characters I mean 4 different MCs from technically 4 different story worlds.

I say technically because I know they all belong in different (ish) times but then I realised that they can't all exist in the same world.

The reason being that a real life event that occurs in character B's world would not have occurred if she existed in the same world as character A as her story changes history.

So I figure I'm dealing with at least 2 alternate realities.

And as the title suggests I'm also wondering whether or not to take part in NaNoWriMo this year. You might think that it's a bit early to think about this. But this isn't regular NaNoWriMo I'm talking about. No this is Camp NaNoWriMo which takes place in April and July and is a bit more flexible when it comes to your word count.

I've already decided not to take part in the A To Z Challenge in April on my other blog (as I have no clue what to post about... and I personally don't feel comfortable going in to April without a plan for the challenge).

So I would have the month of April free to take part in Camp... the only problem is which character's story to go with - I've already had a go at 3 of them in novel form and the 4th in short story form. But I think I'm going to have to continue looking at my characters and just see which one jumps out the most at me.

Only time will tell.

Til next week...

Creatively Speaking: Getting Back In To A Routine

it seems to have taken me quite some time to get back in to a creative place since New Year.

Last year I managed to be creative every single day from January until early November. And I managed to do something writing related every day from about March to the beginning of December. But for whatever reason I've struggled to get back in to that sort of routine. But I am slowly but surely getting there.

This week has seen the return of me colouring in my adult colouring book... as well as trying to come up with a way to store my coloured pencils together using things I already have (nothing concrete yet - am still mulling it over).

I have also be rooting through my crafting supplies mainly due to a tip I got from Lindsay The Frugal Crafter on YouTube.

Now it is one of those tips that seems obvious when you think about it... I just hadn't thought about it. I also discovered whilst rooting through my supplies some of my craft punches were stuck. Two have since become unstuck and two broke during the unsticking process (oops!).

Writing wise this week I've been reading more of Characters and Viewpoint by Orson Scott Card. And I've been making more notes on my current writing project and writing down ideas for others.

All this on top of finding a storage solution to my over flowing jumper and pyjama drawers. And trying to work out what the hell the instructions for putting up a blind mean (I think I understand now... think being the operative word).

Til next week...

Creatively Speaking: A New Year

Happy New Year! I said that already didn't I?

But anyway it's been a couple of week's since I last posted a Creatively Speaking post and in that time creatively I've just been either finishing bits and pieces off or solving slightly peculiar problems.

So I finished my Christmas cards for 2015 (I may have mentioned that int he last post... I've slept since then) so the great game of trying to fit all of my Christmas card stuff back in it's box took place (always with the Tetris theme tune in my head - if you click the link you don't have to stay and listen for the full 10 minutes).

So just before Christmas I helped my mum solve the problem of how to build a get on a makeshift pen in her outhouse for my sister's dog to spend Christmas in - which was so much fun as my dad had a tendency to not put tools away properly when he has finished with them. So it was also a treasure hunt!

I have also built a bookcase... and sifted through all my many many books. So my room is a little bit tidier now as my books now have a home and I have piled up all the packaging various people's Christmas presents came in ready for recycling.

And I've made a birthday card for my mum (after the previous sentence I very nearly said "built" a birthday card!).

Writing wise I've been making notes on the draft I wrote during NaNoWriMo... which to be honest I haven't finished writing yet.

But I have been working on some of this procrastination I tend to take part in - I'm reading a book called How To Be An Imperfectionist by Stephen Guise and I do think it is helping me. I feel as though I'm more likely to try things because I've known for a while now that the reason I fail to start things it because I think/know it will not be perfect.

So til next week...

...and now I have the Tetris theme stuck in my head! :)
