Creatively Speaking: Planning Ahead

Despite the fact that I said last week that although I had my Christmas card making supplies I wouldn't be making them until December, I have surprised myself by planning them further.

I haven't actually started making them but I've been coming up with more specific ideas on their design. Which is unusual for me in that I tend to only know specifically what I'm going to make when I sit down to make it.

And of course there was doodling...

I also did a bit more work on my apron for my Alice cosplay which to be honest I hadn't worked on in a while.

And I also followed some more sketching tutorials on YouTube which included DramaticParrot's Hades tutorial.

And writing wise it was continued reading of Conflict, Action & Suspense by William Noble.

Til next week...

Creatively Speaking: A Spot Of Building

Well despite the fact that I was ill for part of this week (I'm still coughing now actually) I did still manage to be creative every day.

It mainly involved doodling and following DramaticParrot's tutorials on my worst days - this week I had a go at Percy's Maleficent and Scar tutorials.

Then yesterday I went to a craft shop - that was almost too much creativity to bear. But I got almost all the things that I wanted - paper pad, sketch book, clear gesso, card blanks. And some embossing powders that weren't on my list- I couldn't resist the glitteryness!

So I've just about got all the things I need to make my Christmas cards this year. I know it sounds like I'm really organised but I probably won't make any cards until December - as is my usual practice!

And today's creative task involved putting a piece of furniture together. A piece of furniture that I got as part of a creative solution to a space problem.

You see in my bedroom I have my TV, PS3 and digital TV box all sat on top of my chest of drawers. But I have recently decided to get a PS4 - for which there is no room. Now there would be room if I stood the PS4 on it's side like my PS3 is. And although there is a vertical stand available for that purpose it looks as though it isn't really advised that you stand it on it's end.

So I had to go in search of a TV unit that I could put in top of the chest of drawers and that I could house a PS4, PS3 and digital TV box in without having my TV up by the ceiling. And after a bit of searching on the internet I found such a unit, and I bought and built it (Now I just have to get the PS4 :) the space is currently reserved by two Beanie Babies).

And writing wise it was more of Conflict, Action & Suspense by William Noble.

I hereby promise that a PS4 will distract me from my creativity, anymore than the PS3 does now :)

So it was a mixed week...

Have you solved any space problems creatively?

Creatively Speaking: There Was Lots Of Doodling

As I sit and write this I've had quite a stressful day so trying to remember what I have done this week is a bit of a struggle (I knew I should have kept listing what I did each week).

There has been some doodling - quite a lot in fact. I also did some research on just how the hell I intend to make a chainsaw for my Grell Sutcliff costume.

And to be honest other than constantly doodling the only different thing I did creatively was I had a go at drawing Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Now I didn't just randomly draw her from my imagination. No I followed a tutorial on YouTube as recorded by DramaticParrot.

And my effort didn't turn out that bad... not as good as Percy's did but not bad for a first attempt. I figure following tutorials like this might encourage me to do more sketching.

And writing wise I finished reading Write Fast, Beat Procrastination - Mile-High Word-Count & Writing Productivity by Rick Smith. I have to say in my opinion it had some good tips and I've read worse writing books but I've also read better.

I've now moved on to Conflict, Action & Suspense by William Noble. I've also written a few more notes on some of my characters from my current WIP.

Til next week...

Creatively Speaking: Some Random Baking

Yes, as the title suggests this week I did some random baking. As part of my birthday present my sister got me a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cupcake Kit (say that ten times fast!).

And I wasn't at work on Monday as it was a Bank Holiday here in the UK. I got up, looked out of the window at the rain and thought "what better time to make turtle cupcakes?"

So that was Monday. The rest of the week I've been doodling, working on my apron and planning my Christmas cards - you heard me.

So I don't know exactly what they will look like but I need to make sure I have the supplies ahead of time. I'm thinking that I'm going to go for more traditional colours - red, green and gold. And I ordered some dies so I can cut out little Merry Christmas' and Seasons Greetings'.

Writing wise, of course it has been more of Write Fast, Beat Procrastination - Mile-High Word-Count & Writing Productivity by Rick Smith. And just typing that has reminded me that I'm not sitting properly (one of topics in the book).

And even though I am still working on my Steamdress cosplay outfit I am very tempted to make a start on the chainsaw for my Grell Sutcliff cosplay. I've got some long pieces of cardboard that would be perfect for it. But having said that once my apron is complete I've just got the harness, sleeves and bow to finish on the Steamdress.

Decisions, decisions...

How was your week creatively speaking?
