Creatively Speaking: Is This Even Creative?

So writing wise this week I've read some more of Write Fast, Beat Procrastination - Mile-High Word-Count & Writing Productivity by Rick Smith. But I can't help but think as I'm reading it that I'm in fact procrastinating... so I don't know if reading it is defeating the object. But I'm picking up some tips so in the long run it might help.

We are 62 days away from NaNoWriMo 2015 and I want to take part but I'm not sure if I will or not just yet. If I get my scene list all done and dusted I'll be in a better place to decide.

Anyway when it comes to other creative outlets this week I have mainly been making a birthday card, doodling and I have started work again on my apron.

In the last couple of months I stopped writing down the creative/writing things I have been doing each day. Which right now I wish I hadn't done because I'm sure there is something else I've done this week that falls in to one of those 2 categories... but I don't remember what it was!

Does arranging my Pop! Vinyl figures count as a creative outlet... because that might be what I'm thinking of. I was deliberating over where to put my Leonardo figure as I currently have 4 Ghostbusters figures (5 if you count Ecto1 and Winston as separate figures even though they came together) and 2 Black Butler figures (FYI the Undertaker is very top heavy and doesn't like to stand up without support).

So Leo ended up looking out of place. There's nothing for it I am just going to have to get some more TMNT figures to keep him company ;)

But enough about my random collections...

Are you planning on taking part in NaNoWriMo this year? Or have you taken part in one of the Camp NaNoWriMo sessions of 2015?

Til next week...

Creatively Speaking: Whose Bright Idea Was It?

Well this week I have been creative in slightly different ways to those have become the norm recently.

I doodled (of course) and made a birthday card (and came up with an idea for the next birthday card I've got to make).

I considered which colours I want to use on canvas I bought a while ago (it already has an image on it but I want to change the colours to go with my bedroom).

And I spent some time doing some research for the cosplay costumes I want to make/am making. This involved me staring at images of the characters and thinking "how the hell am I going to make that?" and "why did I think it would be a good idea to cosplay as that character?" (hence the title of this post).

I haven't got much further with my apron as I had to go and get some more embroidery thread. When I come to think of it I haven't got much more to make for the Steamdress. It's just the bits I do have to make aren't all that simple.

Writing wise this week I've add a few notes to my current novel idea (mainly involving me arguing with myself over which of the supernatural creatures might possess psychic powers) and I've read some more of Write Fast, Beat Procrastination - Mile-High Word-Count & Writing Productivity by Rick Smith. So far it's not a bad read - but I'll have to read more before I pass judgement on whether it is a good book.

Creatively Speaking: Other Things

Well this week I have had to change what I have been doing creatively speaking slightly because although I have been continuing with my apron - I ran out of thread!

So until I get some more I've been doodling, cross-stitching, moving my desk so I can actually use it, thinking up colour schemes for a canvas I want to alter. And on Thursday... I did nothing!

No I didn't fall off the wagon... well technically I did but I have an excuse I promise.

Thursday was my birthday and I went to London to see a musical. I did have every intention to do something creative and something writing related however by the time I got back from London and had something to eat it was about ten to midnight. And I figured if I'm going to have one day off why not let it be my birthday?

So at ten to midnight I decided to have the day off. But every other day I have been creative/done something writing related.

Speaking of writing related, as well as writing out my list of scenes - which is harder than I thought as if it were up to me my list would consist of about ten and I know that isn't remotely enough - I have started reading another writing book. This one has a real mouthful of a title - Write Fast, Beat Procrastination - Mile-High Word-Count & Writing Productivity by Rick Smith.

In the past I have posted the odd motivational video I've found on YouTube and today I discovered another channel. I've only watched one video so far (the one below) but it did make me feel motivated so I thought I'd pass the feeling on (to be honest I found the video a bit distracting so I stared at the ceiling and just listened to it).

Til next week...

Express Yourself: Dancing

Express Yourself is a weekly meme hosted by Entertaining Interests and Bouquet of Books.

Basically at the beginning of every month the hosts, Dani and Jackie, post a list of what that month's subjects/questions will be.

Then sometime during each week you post about that subject. To sign up/for more information click here.

This week's subject: What song makes you want to dance as soon as you hear it?

Creatively Speaking: A Quick Update

Just a quick post this week - there isn't much to report really.

Writing wise I'm on to listing my scenes... which I am now seeing might be harder than I thought... but also it might be where I've gone wrong in the past when my story ends up being a bit short. (I'm usually a pantser!)

Creative wise I've been continued the embroidery on my apron, doodled and I've done some more research on how to create some of the cosplay ideas I've come up with.

And it would seem I'm not drawn towards the simple t-shirt and jeans and add a wig kind of cosplays. Oh no. I seem to be drawn to the complicated, will have to draft my own pattern because that kind of skirt, shirt, coat etc doesn't actually exist as a pattern.

And I'm kind of one of those people who to make as much as the costume myself (otherwise it would be too easy!).

What have you been up to this week?

Creatively Speaking & A Belated Countdown

When it comes to the Snowflake Method this week I've been  kind of going in reverse. As a new character appeared last week I had to go back and change my four page synopsis.

Good thing I did as I discovered a detail in one paragraph that had missed the last synopsis rewrite. I changed my setting from somewhere in modern day USA to Victorian London... but one paragraph stated that my main character had spotted a "vehicle" from earlier. Now I know that "vehicle" could refer to a carriage but... it is a word that doesn't conjure up an image of carriage is it? It conjures up an image of something that doesn't require animal intervention for it to move.

So I writing wise I did that... and continued adding snippets to my character bibles of course.

Other wise I have been doodling and continuing work on my apron. I'm now on to adding the symbols.

The white symbols are in fact paper templates - I thought it would be the easier to perfect the template and draw round it, rather than trying to draw straight on the faux leather and making mistakes.

I am actually further on than this now as I have not only drawn the symbols on I am now in the process of embroidering them on (that's right I can embroider... granted I had to watch a couple of videos on which stitches to use but anyway).

And then this morning I was going about my business when I realised I had forgotten something very important.

I even remember thinking to myself sometime last week that I had to schedule that post... and then I clearly forgot all about it.

So here it is (with a slight adjustment for being two days late). There are now only:

 89 Days

to go until the start of NaNoWriMo 2015!

Til next week...
