Creatively Speaking: More Of The Same

There's not a whole lot to report this week although I have been creative/done something writing related every day this week.

Writing wise it has been more of the Snowflake Method. I'm currently working on my four page synopsis at home because it's on my laptop and my character bibles whilst on my lunch at work because I'm writing them in a notebook.

And all week I've been working on my goggles for the steampunk event which is now less than a week away.

And my goggles currently look like this:

I know they look a bit odd at the moment. But all I've got to do now is paint my detail on, as the black is the base coat, stick my lenses in and then thread ribbon through where they join in the middle and at either side so they can be tied on.

Simple really...

Creatively Speaking - Busy Busy Busy

Firstly we'll get the writing out of the way. Due to the fact that I finished reading The Kick Ass Writer last week, this week I have been just working on the Snowflake Method. I really want to refer to it as my current snowflake as I think I'm going to use this method for other writing projects... assuming that this one continues to go well.

But with regards to other creative pursuits this week has been busy:

1. I fixed my coat. I was walking the dog, with the hand I was holding the lead in, in my pocket. My dog suddenly lunged towards a hedge causing me to rip the edge of my pocket... so I sewed it up.

2. I made 2 cards - one for my brother's girlfriend's birthday. And one for my Dad for Father's Day.

3. I finished my dress! I got the eyelets done and went around neatening up any bits that I thought I could get away with if I didn't have time to fix.

So  here is the finished article.

I haven't made all the accessories to make it look just like Alice's steam dress - I do intend to make them but it is highly unlikely that I'd get them done for the event I'm going to.

But the event is a steampunk event not a cosplay event so I'm just going to add other accessories to it.

4. Speaking of accessories as the aforementioned steampunk is Alice In Wonderland themed I have made a tag to go in the top hat that I made previously.

5. And finally I've started work on my goggles again. I haven't worked on them in ages but I hope to have them done in time for the steampunk event in a couple of weeks time.

So what have you been up to this week?

Express Yourself - A Secret Place

Express Yourself is a weekly meme hosted by Entertaining Interests and Bouquet of Books.

Basically at the beginning of every month the hosts, Dani and Jackie, post a list of what that month's subjects/questions will be.

Then sometime during each week you post about that subject. To sign up/for more information click here.

This week's subject: You have been blindfolded and taken to a secret place, when the blindfold is removed, where are you?

Well my first thought when I read that question was 'How the hell should I know - I was blindfolded and it's a secret'.

My second thought was that I was in a cave... that then became some sort of underground lab or the lair of a Bond villain. But it was still a cave.

Creatively Speaking - I Finished the Stripes!

As you may be able to tell from the title of this post I finally finished adding the stripes to my dress as I have been doing the last couple of weeks.

And today I also got the studs put in the sleeves! So all I have to do now is add the line of ribbon with eyelets in it around the edge and the dress itself will be complete... the accessories to go with it on the other hand not so much.

Another creative thing I've done this week, which sounds a bit random, is that I've hemmed a piece of voile and put it along the top of the curtain rail in my bedroom. This is because my curtail rail sticks out quite a bit from the wall so although the blackout curtains do a pretty good job, they can't stop light creeping in at the top of the curtains. So the voile is there to "filter" the light a little... or that's the plan anyway.

Writing wise I have now finished The Kick Ass Writer - the reason it took me so long to finish is because I was reading a couple of pages each day during my lunch... and the book is like 280 pages long.

I've also been doing a bit of research - I could do with some maps of 19th century London given that I've now changed my setting. So of course that also means I've done more of the Snowflake Method.

Have you had any projects recently you couldn't wait to complete?

Creatively Speaking: A Day Late

I am writing this post a day late because yesterday, when I should have posted this, I was having computer problems. I don't know if it was exclusively my laptop, or problems with the internet or a mixture of the two. But I got to a point when I was clinging to my patience for dear life and the temptation to hurl said laptop out the window was very real.

If I had continued then what this guy did to his computer would have been nothing in comparison to what I was going to do to mine.

But it all seems to be working ok now (fingers crossed).

And after all that there wasn't really much difference between last week and the week before writing and creative wise.

In fact I can just quote last week's post:

Writing: The Kick Ass Writer and Snowflake Method as ever
Creative: I've been sewing stripes on to my dress

And that would more or less sum the week up apart from a couple of details:

1. When I said I only had 8 stripes to sew on to my dress I FORGOT ABOUT THE SLEEVES - WAAAHHHH!

2. I altered a pair of jeans - as in I altered the waist. I always struggle to find jeans that fit me round the bum and the waist. They always gape at the waist. So my go to trick is to cut triangles of fabric out from behind a couple of belt loops, sew the gaps up and sew the loops back on to cover the alteration. You just have to make sure the stitches are secure otherwise your belt loops/alterations might come undone.

3. I realised I didn't like the setting that my WIP was set in. So I went through all the steps of the snowflake I've done so far and altered them. It was set in an paranormal fantasy modern day USA... somewhere. But now I've changed to a more steampunk like Victorian London. And now the characters/plot seem to fit that little bit better.

Til next week...
