Weekly Writing - Little By Little

So this week I wrote a whole 545 words bringing my total to 55,546 words.

At the moment my creative muse and inner editor are at war - the muse is trying to finish the story whilst the editor keeps pointing out the plot holes.

Well they are less plot holes and more plot gaping chasms - but I want to get the actual story finished before I tackle the holes. And then there are the pointless characters... ones that were introduced and then haven't really done all that much.

I think I am just going to have to type the ending no matter how crap it turns out to be... and I get the feeling that it will be very crap.

Weekly Writing - Planning For April

I’ll be honest I haven’t increased my word count this week.

When I’m not at work I try not to think about work… but it has been stressing me out so much this week it has occupied my mind outside of work as well.

Having said that I did manage to make some notes/plans on ideas for session one of Camp NaNoWriMo 2013 in April. The main thing is trying to work out what is actually going to happen. I have the steampunk world mapped out in my head. And I have an event history for said place going back a couple hundred years. But I only had little fragments of story for the actual yarn. So I’m working out how to knit them together (no pun intended)in to an actual plot.

And I read a teeny smidgen more of Writing Fiction For All You're Worth by James Scott Bell. I really need to get that finished… I’ve been reading it for a while. The thing is it is on my laptop (the only device I have Kindle software on) and I tend to forget about the stuff on there I have waiting to be read.

Til next week...

P.S. Something odd I've noticed about this blog. On my laptop the background is the right size and everything lines up perfectly. You can see the entire blog just by scrolling up and down. However when I have looked at my blog on my work computer (just to check nothing catastrophic has occured posting wise) the background is HUGE and you can also scroll left and right... so my header doesn't always line up properly and it looks shoddy - it's strange...

Weekly Writing - On The Up

This week my word count has increased.

I managed to get 1,345 words added to my first draft bringing the total to 55,001 words.

And I think the story is heading towards the big showdown. At the beginning of the week I thought the scene I was in was the final showdown... turns out I was wrong.

I've also been beginning to give a little more thought to my possible Camp NaNoWriMo project for April - the cogs are a-turning!

This post is only a short one this week but I still have a link for you - found on my travels through the blogosphere... when I suppose I really ought to be writing.

Over at The Kill Zone Joe Moore posted about how to stay focused on your writing.

Til next week...

Weekly Writing - Do Or Do Not

Well here we are four days in to 2013. And this week I’ve written a whole 568 words. Which is 568 more words than last week. And 350 more words than the week before that. So things are gradually improving.

My grand total now stands at 53,656 words.

In other news I bought a diary… I usually have a diary but it is usually a less-than-a-tenner sort of diary. This year I have two diaries – one of the cheap variety for everyday scribblings. And a more fancy-smancy Moleskine one that will keep track of my word counts and other writerly things (I’ve tried keeping track of word counts on a spreadsheet – it never seems to work).

A diary that has things such as this…

the gospel according to Yoda

…written on it.

I also had a bit of an epiphany earlier this week when I watched the film Wanted. Some of you are now thinking how?

Well I’d never seen the film before (I recorded it in November and only just got around to watching it). I actually quite enjoyed it.

But right at the end James McAvoy’s character looks straight at the camera and asks "what the f**k have you done lately?"

At which point I realised the answer was ‘not a lot.’ (Also the point that my expensive diary got bumped up to ‘writing’ diary.)

Yeah granted I could say I wrote 50,000 words in 30 days recently-ish. But the first draft is still not finished AND my NaNo 2010 is still in the very early stages of editing.

So I had a serious word with myself and my word count is therefore going to increase… hopefully a lot (not just at a snail's pace as it has been recently). And I’ve been thinking more about my plans for Camp NaNoWriMo. And as a consequence I’ve been thinking about NaNoWriMo 2013. If I take part in Camp NaNo in April… what will I write in November?

Ooh the trials and tribulations of being a writer.

So to close this first Weekly Writing post of 2013 I leave you with a link to Chuck Wendig’s 25 Writer Resolutions.

NaNoWriMo Countdown - Happy New Year

It’s now 2013… it only seems two minutes since 2012 started.

There are now only…

304 DAYS

Left until NaNoWriMo 2013 begins (and only 90 days to go until the first session of Camp NaNoWriMo 2013 starts in April – as far as I know).
