Everyday I'm Shuffling...

I mentioned recently that I had come across a new challenge from Sally at Quiller's Place... and that I might give it a whirl once the A To Z Blogging Challenge was over...

Well today is the last day... and now I'm being drawn to the 30 Day Ipod Shuffle Writing Challenge like a moth to a flame... hopefully it won't burn me.

Without copying Sally's entire post (which if you click the link you can read yourself) the concept is very simple:

On day one you write a story inspired in some way by the first song on the ipod shuffle setting. Day two you write a story inspired the second song that plays on the shuffle setting. And so on and so on.

And Sally says:

"It doesn’t have to be a story. It can be a poem or article if you wish. Even the first chapter of a novel.
And if you can’t do this every day, just do it when you can until you’ve got 30 stories or poems under your belt."

There is also a Twitter hash tag for you to tweet under - #ipodwritingchallenge (but I'm not on Twitter anyway).

So I'm thinking about starting tomorrow... and seeing if I can do one each day except for Fridays (writing sabbath), or if not I'll just see how long it takes me to get to thirty.

Now one main difference will be that I don't have an ipod... so it will be a regular old mp3 player for me.

I'm also wondering whether I could use each song to write part of the same story - sort of string them all together - but we will just have to wait and see.

And even though I'm thinking about starting tomorrow I'm still currently undecided whether or not to post each day stating which song I've ended up with. Or whether to just wait until my Weekly Writing post on a Friday and list them all then... hmm... there is a chance that you would end up being sick of me!

Weekly Writing - Not Much To Report

I'll be honest I have written nothing and edited nothing this week.

Zilch, nada, NOTHING!!!

I'm hoping that next week when the A To Z Challenge is all done and dusted I might get something done.

I'm thinking of having a go at Sally Q's 30 Day Ipod Shuffle Writing Challenge... with a slight alteration or two.

1. I wouldn't include Fridays
2. I don't have an ipod so I will use a generic mp3 player :)

Now of course I couldn't let you go with out giving you a link could I?

So here is Elspeth of It's A Mystery's post on Wisdom Of The Sheep.

Hopefully there will be more to report next week.

Weekly Writing - Literary Revenge

So I haven't done any editing at all this week however I have written a short story.

BAM BAM BAAAAMMM!!!

I know - shocking isn't it? Having not actually written anything since February.

And it is a story inspired by real life.

I was playing Call Of Duty the other day when I noticed that I had a received a message about twenty minutes or so earlier. Usually these messages are people asking me to join their game or be friends or whatever.

But this cheeky b*stard had decided to take time out of his day to send me a message to tell me to 'give it up... this game's not for you.'

I ignored the idiot who seems to think he can dictate what games that others can play and deleted the message... and continued playing Call Of Duty.

But it got the old cogs whirring.

And I ended up with a nine hundred word story where some cocky, bad mannered gamer gets his comeuppance.

You never know who's online!!!

Anymore triumphs for writing this week?

Weekly Writing - Lack Of Energy

This week I have had very little energy... I don't know why.

It has taken all the energy I've had just to keep up with my A To Z posts on my other blog.

I have edited precisely one page of my first draft this week - ONE!!!

Although that one page did bring attention a problem with my time line. I noticed the other week that I had a very long afternoon occurring. Well the page I looked at this week had history's shortest day! My MC got up, had breakfast. It rained, it stopped. My MC went for a walk, had dinner and went to bed. Next minute it is the early hours of the next day!

Although I have little to report I have gathered together a selection of links for you this week.

They should keep you busy while I syphon off your excess energy through your computer - Mwahahahahaha!!!

And yes I am well aware that the way I've written that list is as though I'm reading out the music charts... or the entertainment news or something... or is that just how it seems to me?

Has anyone else had a more productive week? Don't mind me - I'm just making conversation whilst I finish draining your surplus energy :)

100 Days Are Up

I started out this year by taking part in Sally Q's 100k In 100 Days.

Now according to my spreadsheet I stopped writing around the 10th February. I actually threw in the towel a week or so later than that and decided to start editing my NaNo 2010.

So there were a few days when I didn't write but was still technically taking part.

I ended up with 25,061 words - which broken down in to actual work gave me:

11 short stories
11 flash fiction
and the beginning of a novel

So even though I didn't even come close to the 100k mark it is still 25,061 words more than I would have written otherwise. By April 2011 I'm pretty sure I had written nothing and only half-heartedly glanced at my NaNo 2010 manuscript.

So this year I'm light years ahead already...

In other news trying to pry frozen sausages apart with a knife is not a good idea - you end up slicing through part of your thumb!

Weekly Writing - A To Z-ing

Well I got a bit more editing done this week but I've been Blogging From A To Z on my other blog.

So there isn't that much to report... made notes on some more pages... found yet more discrepancies.

Not to mention the amount of things I've glossed over... things that should really be part of the story... that would have made hitting the 50,000 word mark a lot easier! And there are nameless people wandering around - known only by their job title.

Now I know that I can't name everybody... but I have two farm labourers who are interviewed by the police and yet remain nameless. Oh I tell a lie they are referred to as the shorter one and the taller one!

Editing didn't seem so bad to start with... how wrong was I?

Anyone else tearing their hair out over their WIP?

Inspirational Tunes - April 2012

I thought that this song was quite fitting given what day it is.

Happy April Fool's Day!
