Weekly Writing - Not Looking Good

Well it would seem obvious to anyone that at the rate I am going I won’t make it to 100k in 100 days. I’m really going to have to crack on if I want to stand a chance.
However if I do in fact fall short at the 100 days mark I will continue and find out exactly how long it does take me to get 100,000.

So on to this week’s word counts:

Saturday 21st January: 0
Sunday 22nd January: 211
Monday 23rd January: 522
Tuesday 24th January:1374
Wednesday 25th January: 0
Thursday 26th January: 783
Friday 27th January: Writing Sabbath

Total for week: 2890

Grand total: 14619 words

I blame Wednesday’s total lack of words on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3… and to a lesser extent my brother’s birthday (which is today) as I was making him a card.

Regardless of whether or not you are taking part in 100k in 100 Days, how has your writing been going so far this year?

Why You Do What You Do - The Origins Blogfest

I know I should be using my time to fire out as many words as possible during 100k in 100 days but I happen to have found a writing related blogfest to take part in.

DL Hammons at Cruising Altitude 2.0 is hosting (along with a number of other bloggers but I'm led to believe that he came up with the idea) The Origins Blogfest.

It's very simple - all you have to do on Monday 13th February is write a post about how you became a writer. What made you want to write?

Weekly Writing - Still Typing Away

So another week and more words have been frantically typed... maybe not as many as I should have written... but more words than I might otherwise have written.

Monday 16th January: 2398
Tuesday 17th January: 1006
Wednesday 18th January: 0

Friday 20th January: Writing Sabbath

Total for week: 4033

Total overall: 11729 words

Weekly Writing - Still Behind

So another week of 2012 has gone by... and I'm still behind on my word count for 100k in 100 Days.

But I'm not worried (yet). It's early days. I have got until the beginning of April.

And I have ideas beginning to swirl in my head. I've noticed that if I write down any of Sally's (Host of 100k in 100 Days) daily prompts I have to leave them to ferment for a few days before I can use them.

And I have an idea germinating (I'm full of metaphors today!) that could be a novella or a novel. I'm not sure yet. It's definitely longer than a short story. And if I can get the idea growing it would certainly fill up quite a large chunk of my 100k target.

So word counts for the week:

Saturday 7th January: 0
Sunday 8th January: 0
Monday 9th January: 973
Tuesday 10th January: 1202
Wednesday 11th January: 1002
Thursday 12th January: 1170
Friday 13th January: Writing Sabbath... so no words...

Total for week: 4347

Grand Total (so far): 7696 words

So yes the gap has grown a little. I was only 3000 words behind last week and now I'm over 5000 words behind. But on the other hand the number of words I'm writing has increased this week as I got about 3000 last week and as you can see above I did just over 4000 this week.

Keep at it - we'll get there in the end!

Weekly Writing - 100k in How Many Days?

Here I am with my first Weekly Writing of 2012!

As my regular readers will know (if there are any of you out there!) I decided to take part in 100k In 100 Days.

And true to form I am already behind! But at this stage it doesn't seem all that daunting... I'm not that far behind. I'm still going to take my 'Writing Sabbath' on a Friday (link takes you to the book that I got this idea from... it's a very good book).

So today I should be on 6000 words... but I'm not.

Sunday 1st January: 1017
Monday 2nd January: 0
Tuesday 3rd January: 0
Wednesday 4th January: 1268
Thursday 5th January: 1064
Friday 6th January: Writing Sabbath (therefore no words!)

Total for week: 3349 words

So I'm behind by nearly 50%. Which at this stage is nothing. It's not like I should be on 60,000 words and I'm only 30,000 is it... that would be daunting.

So I may be behind but I do have three short stories that I didn't have before so it's something. And if you go to Sally Q's (our host) blog everyday she is posting some prompts... of which two of my short stories so far have come from (the other one is a kind of fan fiction piece that I've had whirling around my noggin for a while now).

And you may have noticed that I have a progress bar... word count widget... thing at the top of my blog (over there on the right). You have to update it yourself but if you want to get one click on it and it will take you to where I got it from - simples!

And just before I go - how come the spellchecker questioned my spelling of the word 'blog' but not 'noggin'?

Inspirational Tunes - January 2012

Happy New Year!

And for this month's Inspirational Tune I decided to try and provide something for everyone... kind of.

What I mean is I am giving you three different versions of the same tune: classical, dance/techno and heavy metal/hard rock. (As you can probably tell I'm not really sure of the exact musical genres involved.)

The piece of music is In The Hall Of The Mountain King by Edvard Grieg

So first up is the classical version performed by the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg:

And next is the techno version (I'm not sure who it's by):

And last but definitely not least we have the rock version performed by Apocalyptica:

And voila! Something for everyone... as long as you like classical, techno or rock! :-)
